On September 2nd, 2016 the Longview Union Firefighters Benevolent Fund, operated by the City of Longview Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 828, jointly with The Longview Longshoremen ILWU Local 21, will host their annual Salmon Derby charity with a $500 top prize.
The two groups have been hosting this charity fishing derby for the past 6 years. Our charity derby has grown over the years with approximately 50 teams participating in 2015. Not only is it a full day of fishing but we also host a charity auction/raffle and buffet dinner for all participants following the fish weigh-in. Our goal is to raise money to support local charities throughout the City of Longview.
As with years past, the proceeds are divided between the Longview Union Firefighters Benevolent Fund and the Longview Longshoremen’s charity fund. The Firefighters Benevolent Fund supports local kids through the “Operation Warm” program, which provides warm coats for kids in the winter. The Fund is also used to provide vouchers for families that have had a fire in their home, sponsor local youth sports teams, support cancer victims, adopting at-need families around the holidays, and much more.
